Here is wishing you all a very happy SANKRANTI. For major part of ANDHRA PRADESH, this is a significant festival. This festival is celebrated for 3 days - Bhogi, Sankranti, and Kanuma. Even though we, the city crowd, doesn't know what these days are all about, it's celebrated with a lot of fanfare in almost all the villages of the AP.
One of the main reasons for this celebration is the 'crop harvest'. All the farmers reap the crops and this is the time when they sell it. And obviously, this calls for celebration. Bhogi - i am sure everyone of us may have heard of Bhogi Manta atleast once, if not more, in their life. And Kanuma - I am not sure about it, but in our village, we used to celebrate it as 'Pasuvula Panduga' which means we worship buffaloes, ox, etc. And when I was young, I used to be amazed by all these rituals and more important, had a lot of fun - Especially on the third day, the villagers used to prepare a 'Bommarillu' , etc.. Oh man! good old days.
Added to that, there's 'Kodi Pandem'. Hoo! And of course, who could forget the kites ?
Enjoy ur days guys.
PS: If u r wondering who this new intruder on the FHDB is - well! I am relatively new to FHDB even though I can call myself a 'Jack of All Trades' on the Internet
