AIDS in INDIA

by oshkoshbgosh » Mon May 09, 2005 2:59 am

Hey Guys,

Iam microbiologist from Netherlands. You all know its fun place in the world. I have not been to India for several years, but I read that India is shining, progressing and emerging economic and global power. Well it may be true but I think "global superpower" is a wrong word to use. We will not be superpower unless we can provide basic necessities to everyone, eradicate diseases, lower the birth rate. Again I suggest we should not feel superpower because the growing rate of AIDS cases in India is very high. As far as I know India is the number 1 in AIDS cases. That means we are in superpathetic situation. This situation can wipe out half the country in 10 years. So, this situation demands strong fight specially youth. I think we can deal the situation by having open debates among school and college students and these debates should be about safe sex. Its not a bad thing to talk about sex or use of condoms. Remember guys prevention is better than cure.

Iam hoping I will have response from you guys. I will welcome your suggestions or true criticism. Dont waste your time in writing shitty replies to me.

1. African countries have highest cases of Aids as a percentage of population and actual no. of cases, not India.

2. India is reproting increasesd number of HIV cases and not AIDS.

3. Recent studies indicate that Africans are more prone to AIDS, so all the HIV positive cases turn into AIDS cases. This is not the case with India. All HIV positive patients may not get AIDS and its highly unlikely that the African scenario will be repeated elsewhere (Some districts in Nigeria have almost 50% pop suffering from Aids).

Too pessimistic. Situation is worse but not that scary.

I strongly agree with you. Awareness should be spread among people - both educated and unedcuated people. Pulirajuki aids vastunda?

You are true that all HIV cases may not turn into AIDS cases but that does not mean Indians have immunity against AIDS. Moreover, depending on the individual gentic background, HIV positive cases can lead to AIDS in 10 or less years. We should always remember that drugs available can only prolong the life of a patient but does not cure. Hence, the worse situation can become scary when deaths occur due to AIDS at an alarming rate. This may happen because rate of spreading of HIV infection is high in India.

Bump.. bump.. man... these numbers if authentic are staggering. I was thinking like there would be just a handful of cases in India.
