Wasnt Jack Charlton the reason that Keano left the WC 2002 squad. Read his book.....really good.

Habitual Perfectionist wrote:Personally, I feel the Irish team in 90 was much better than their subsequent teams to the WC. Added to that, they had one of the shrewdest minds in the game, Jack Charlton, as the coach.

The Ireland-Romania match in 1990 was one of the best ever...although there was just one goal each from both sides and the match went to penalties. If soemone wants to see a midfield battle royale, that's the match.

keep in mind when reading this thread that i'm deeply impressed that you have such a dept of football knowledge.

However, JC had 1 plan in mind, that is 'Long Ball', it worked well for a few matches, and then ceased to work. I agree our match against Romania was very watchable in Extra time, however as usual we failed to put them away in real time.

Jack Charlton for Ireland was the equvilent of having a Pakistani coaching the Indian cricket team, we're very proud of what he accomplished, but we'd rather do it ourselves in future.

yeah. most of the 1990 team was too (they had Irish ancestory and so were ellagible to play)

now we have an Irish manager, and Irish players. They still play for English clubs though, as club level football in Irelands not up to much.

Santander - Madrid Final score 2-3.

Thrilling injury time goal by Zidane. Other goal scorers were Raul and Michael Owen. Ronaldo, Beckham and Roberto Carlos were rested.

AC Milan and Juventus match went scoreless. Pretty dull match with only 1 yellow card to Thuram being the high point.
