Ganguly got good batsmen b'coz he made sure he got them. I Second that. Ganguly has done a good job though but he has had the
best players at his helm.That luxury was not quite there in Azhar;s time.
Though he had quicks like Javagal,Prasad,Manoj;Batsmen like Sidhu,
Sachin,Jadeja,Himself t his helm,what he lacked was a true Spinner.
Kumble was the sole one sometimes supported by mediocre ones
like Raju,Chauhan etc.
But Ganguly had Really Good Batsmen inluding Dravid,Laxman,Sachin
again,Sehwag,Himself etc.
BTW gang..lax..dravid...sachin all played for azhar aswell. but it was ganguly who has got better out of them...not that azhar was bad...but these players gave there best when gangs was the captain. I am not vouching for ganguly...he is a liability in the field. and had he not been the captain he wld. have been out looooong back...

Yeah From the ODI point of view,Ganguly has done wonders for the team morale and his aggressivenes has paid off.
But inspite of that India is languishing at the bottom of the ICC ODI Table.
Only Zim,Kenya,BAng r below it.
In tests,India is 3rd after Aus & Eng.That shud mean that the team is good in tests.
but of all the performances in the Pak series,only Ganguly & Lax to some extent have failes
