Radio Lollopop - a Terrific Tuesday at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Texas Medical Centre could be classified as a town in its own right. Looking out over downtown Houston, this not-for-profit group of treatment and research centres employs 50,000 people, providing services to 100,000 people per DAY! There has been a major children’s hospital within this centre since 1954, but the current collection of buildings were completed as recently as 2001.

The Children’s Hospital is is the primary paediatric training facility of Baylor College of Medicine, and has built up it’s reputation of expertise through research, and significant developments in the management of many varied childhood afflictions such as cancer and blood disorders, HIV/AIDS, carcinogenic disorders, pulmonary care, premature babies, psychiatric and behavioural disorders.

The medical, nursing and support staff of more than 7,580 takes great pride in the international reputation of their hospital, and are constantly working together to ensure the best care possible for the patients for whom they care.


* Radio Lollipop is one of the leading recreational programs at this hospital and has been established for four years. Construction was a major achievement in itself as the studio was built and ready for broadcasting in just eleven months, as opposed to the usual 1.5years required to establish such a facility.


* I joined a large team of volunteers for Terrific Tuesday, one of two weekly evening broadcasts. For an hour before the show began, volunteers worked to prepare materials for the evening craft - making a patriotic July 4th wreath,
