Bharati and Adik started the project Basera-e-Tabassum (BeT) in Sulkote village, Kupwara district, Kashmir Valley in May 2002. Basera-e-Tabassum , meaning the “Abode of smiles” is a home for the girl orphans of Kupwara. These children have lost their parents as victims of militancy, due to illness and accidental deaths.Each of the children there have had a very tragic past and through BeT , Bharati and Adik try to give them their basic rights to survival, protection, development and participation. Currently, the BeT is an abode to 25 girls, the age group ranging from 3 to 13 years, who are sent to the local schools and all of their daily chores are taken care by Adik and Bharati themselves.But there are still a lot many children who need the support of BeT and with a mission to help all of the children of the Valley, BeT strives to take in 500 more girl children in the coming year. According to a survey conducted by this duo, there are 25,000 orphans in the district of Kupwara alone. This proves a mammoth effort is needed towards the betterment of these children.

EC Pointsman K J Rao ***** Calls It A Day

New Delhi, Mar 4 (PTI) K J Rao ***** , the Election Commission's pointsman who acted tough to ensure a free and fair poll in Bihar and weed out bogus names in the rolls in West Bengal, has decided to call it a day.

The 64-year-old Rao, who worked with the commission for for decades declined a fresh offer to continue for "personal reasons".

Rao, who was a member of the investigation team that probed the malpractices in Amethi, the constituency of late Rajiv Gandhi, in 1989, had retired four years ago but continued with the commission in various capacities. PTI

These ecstatic South Africans starred in the end-game as the home team chased down a world record 434 posted by Australia. Powered by Herschelle Gibbs's 175, the South Africans raced to an improbable 438 for 9 to win the fifth ODI with a ball to spare and clinch the series 3-2. It was a remarkable day when a world record 872 runs were scored. The previous highest scoring ODI was the one in which India beat Pakistan by five runs in Karachi where 693 runs were scored.
