first, lets face it, beggars are not unique to hyd. they are there everywhere in the world. secondly they are not committing crimes, which is good in a way, so if u give in to beggars just bcos they curse u... u r basically giving in to a “Goonda”(or goondi).

and ankita, how do u make out if a person is doing it out of helplessness or it is his \"profession\"? its easy to say \"cant they do some work\".. but work (even manual labor work) isnt easy to find. the other day a friend of mine pointed out a old miserable looking lady begging at panjagutta JN. and said \"she owns an auto that she rents out\". now i didnt verify that and it does seem a bit far fetched, but isnt it possible that not all old people are at it bcos they have no one to look after them? i think a solution could be some NGO with help from big corporates in hyd try to fix some homes for these beggars and make them work in the homes(daily work like cooking, cleaning, gardening. people who are disabled could just be reception or something like that..in fact given time i am sure they will be self sufficient). that way.. u dont need spend too much, u r making them work for it and also making sure they are off the roads.
