because Hyderabad was not named by British and nothing has changed for the poor n needy but Fanaticism has increased with selected few. The Egos of evil people has grown to new heights n has made a mockery of indian society.

Go ahead.. Join the flock mates.. Just remember that out of the books it is still Bombay and Cal.. Not Mumbai or Kolkata.. Ask the guys at the Heathrow or even the toolset seller on the Dombivilli local boarding at Masjid. I thought we stood head and shoulders above the guys camping for the misnomers.

The real charm of Hyderabad is in its name. I think by changing the name to Bhagyanagar only satify the communal minded people.

Think my friends! If you changed your name, would that make you a better person? You are what you are. To make yourself a better person, YOU need to change. The name of this city to me represents all that we stand for. A capital of a predominantly Hindu state with a Musilm name. Is that something we should be proud of? We are a secular country and Hyderabad shoule be a model city for the nation. So, leave the narrow-minded thoughts behind and move ahead on the path of improving the person behind the name. Stop littering, stop jumping signals, stop religious, social, and economic discrimination, and you will see the city and it\'s people transform for the better.

Changing the name of Hyderabad, or for that matter, any other Indian city smacks of religious bigotry and will only strengthen the hands of the communal hoodlums in the country. These people should build new cities instead of renaming old ones. Then no one will object if they want to name it Bhagyanagar or Timbuctoo. Why mess with a historical city like ours, hummh?

The city of Hyderabad was founded by Quli Qutub shah and was greatly developed by King Osman Ali khan. Every Hyderabadi should remain thankful to him. Quli Qutub shah named the city on his wife\'s name Hydermahal, that is how the name originated. Bhagmati was his KEEP or MISTRESS.Can you change history my dear? I am sure you can\'t or nobody can. How can one even propose to change the name of this great city to that of a KEEP\'s name. Shame on you!!!

it should not be renamed bhagyanagar for the simple reason that it was never called by that name.hyderabad is a city concieved and established in the full light of history.it was named hyderabad in honor of hyder- e - karrar, hazrat ali, the fourth rightly guided caliph, the object of quli qutb shahs adoration. The city was also known as BAGHNAGAR(city of gardens) after the many splendid gardens it harboured.the name baghyanagar is a mispelling and mispronunciation of the name bagh-nagar as there is a no gh sound in all indian languaages except urdu. There would have been a strong reason to name it as bhagyanagar if the city was indeed known by this name, since there is no evidence to support this assertion renaming hyderabad would be substituting history with folklore and myth and do a great diservice to the magnificent history and elegant culture of this great city.

Historical honesty is what great nations are built upon. The English Parliament has a statue of Oliver Cromwell, who overthrew the monarchy, and whose son was in turn overthrown. The restored Stuarts did not pull the statue down...it became part of history, and remains so.

Since 1947 Indian politicos have tampered with history, destroyed statues, pulled down arches and gates (in Hyderabad, the Residency Gate comes to mind),renamed cities streets and locations without any redeeming value.

Indians need to focus on builidng a great nation with such a large population resource, rather than bicker about names sponsored by fundamentalist philosophies that always end up in terrorism ... whether it is a fundamentalist muslim, hindu, jew, christian or of any other, the fundamentalist strategy is to distract and control.
In a City now getting known to the world for it\'s Hi-tech status, Hyderbad can ill afford such attitudes.

Hey guys, why discuss on a issue where it leads us no where. Already our State is suffering with lot of problems which need to be addressed to (do you guys think that our CM saab and PM saab have time to approach court (or which ever the authority is) on behalf of us to change our City\'s name. Funny :-) Grow up!!! Sorry to say this. Think about something wherein all (including us) us here can benefit out of it. Think about how to overcome the present crisis the State is undergoing. Send in your comments through mail or post to Chief Minister, State Secretariat, Diagonally Opposite to Amruta Castle, Hyderabad. Let him act on your suggestions or not, but you will definitely feel happy that you have sent him your suggestion which is worth a read.

Keep up the good work guys! I love you all. You might think why I worte all this shit, be optimistic and think once again! You guys out there have the calibre to move governments! I bet!

Kumar.

Don\'t we all wish that changing a city\'s name would clean up the city? Since it is not so, let\'s focus on making our city better instead of wasting our resources on debating whether or not to change the name.

This is the right time for Hyderabad to change its name - to, for example, kakatiyapur city.
