spins near Hyd

by marko » Thu Nov 25, 2004 1:27 pm

Hi everyone, I got a bike last weekend! i've had to change my underwear more regularly this week cos of the driving conditions in Hyd,

but it's going excellently apart from that.

My question is, does anyone know of any round trips near Hyd that have some or all of the following?

- Really quiet roads

- decent road surface

- Heavy corners

- Interesting scenery

- Lots of hills

- 30-50 miles around

with maybe some lakes, and villages and the likes? I'll (hopefully) be picking up my learner licence on Sat, and i'm going to venture out into the countryside

on Sunday. I'm a country boy, this city life is really getting me down :)

ah yes, while i'm on the topic, does anyone know anywhere in Hyderabad that I can get Chrome polish?

all the bike shops i've asked in just look at me blankly and offer me scooter wax.

hey marko,

i may not be the best person to advice u,but i can tell u about this one place, thats if u are sport to go off the beaten path. well, its the village i come from, well, not exactly me, but my ancestors, its 55 Km from ravindra bharathi on nagarjuna sagar highway, 6 Km past this town called yacharam. well, midway, u might see a couple of lakes, but the backdrop will be awesome once u cross maybe 35 km from the city, the volcanic hills and everything, midway, there is an obsevatory at this place called rangapur, which u can pay a visit if u have time, but it is about 18 Kms from the highway.

well, once u get to my village, there is a nice lake there, huge mountains by the lake, well, if there was enough rainfall in the past few days, green fields, unless all the farmers there have committed suicide and all the things associated with the country.

its a nice place. try venturing into the neighbouring villages as well. nice people (atleast, when i knew them, dont know what capitalism has made them now)

but worth the drive.

anyway ask anyone u know in hyderabad about king koti... they ll lead u. or maybe call up CAD, he might be able to lead u from wherever u live or which ever land mark is closer to u.

nd there may not be a million shops doing this in ing koti, but he number will be some where close.

Congrats on your bike! Happy biking!

MM2 seems to have told you about a very nice place. Viqarabad (dunno where it is) is also a good place to go. Me and the family always load up the Indica and go there for long drives.

Necklace road is cool for biking, in the mornings. Mornings are definitely the time for long rides.

Starting from nampally, yuh kin take the strainght road from Baaar Ghat and follow it until Secunderabad (you will get two cool flyovers). You may also want to stop by at the airport for coffee (we definitely do!). It also has the coolest approach road with flowers and lawns on both sides.

You can also follow Nampally-Masab tank-Mehdipatnam-Tolichowki and beyond. The roads are congested after 9 pm though.

Koti is the place to go for ALL your biking needs. Stickers, chrome plating, horns, headlights, silencers, whatever!

King Koti is near Abids. Just go to Big Bazaar in Abids and ask anyone. It is not far from there, about 1 Km. King Koti is a riddle of roads and some of them are one-way, so be careful.

congrats Marko...yu've got yrself a gr8 bike!!!! :D after u get yr licence, practice taking her out in the REAL traffic....thats the ultimate endurance test for n00bs...:D

answering yr questions:
marko wrote:- Really quiet roads
in city: early mornings or late nights...or Necklace Road at other times
marko wrote:- decent road surface
most of the main roads u r likely yo encounter....
marko wrote:- Heavy corners...
i wudnt recommend u to try fast cornering in hyderabad. for all u know an autorickshaw or a buffalo coming on the wrong side might kiss u headlong...
marko wrote:- Interesting scenery
Jubilee Hills in city
marko wrote:- Lots of hills
...same as above
marko wrote:- 30-50 miles around
since u r country boy who appreciates wide open spaces...i suggest a bike trip to Srisailam. its actually a pilgrimage town on lush green hills and a river. Road on the hill is closed after nightfall till dawn, so u've to start yr journey pretty early in the morn. its abt 4 -5 hrs ride if i am not mistaken. it will be a great trip.
Another is a trip to Nagarjunsagar Dam.
Malakie's idea is also good, but he should give more details abt the name of the village etc.
marko wrote:I'll (hopefully) be picking up my learner licence on Sat, and i'm going to venture out into the countryside

u better wait for yr permanent licence next month before u venture out of town. till then u practice in the city traffic, atleast make yrself familiar with the route from yr home to madhapur, punjagutta, begumpet and necklace road.
marko wrote:ah yes, while i'm on the topic, does anyone know anywhere in Hyderabad that I can get Chrome polish? all the bike shops i've asked in just look at me blankly and offer me scooter wax.
as Malakie said King Kothi/Ram Kothi is a good place for bike accesories. i can give u directions or better take someone who knows the area with u. if i am free i will be glad to take u there.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

that sound like a good plan. Thanks for the advice! From the sound of that King Koti place, it shouldn't be too difficult to locate.

hey marko, the city reputedly has a pretty active bike culture. there are clubs for owners of enfield bullets, japanese bikes and vintage vehicles. the bullet club also takes off on these long drives every once in a while. you could speak to this guy called shyam, who knows plenty about bikes/spare parts/the works, he also runs a workshop in ram kote called 'universal scooter house', ph: 2475-0718

that is one sexy bike you have. if you're interested in bikes you should ask to see shyam's pride and joy, a restored norton 650. and as they say in the old enid blyton books, happy trails

hello mischif..welcome to the electra gang. I have one too.

The bullet enthusiasts club called wanderers is quite active. You can get in touch with them at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Wanderers-Hyderabad.

I'd been to Nagarjunsagar on Delilah a couple of weeks ago. It was a fab trip. The road is lovely....no potholes...hardly any trafffic and lovely scenery. Make sure to leave early morning as you wouldn't want to miss the ferry trip to Nagarjunkonda like I did. And carry a digicam with you - it'll come in handy.
